Hynotherapy for phobia HELP!

Basically i have been scared of sick for as long as i can remember, and in late 2007 started getting very bad panic attacks, i didn't get to see a councellor until summer of 2008, and by then the panic attacks had only come once or twice a month, but the councellor made me feel a lot worse, and after just 2 sessions i started getting panic attacks once or more every day, and after a few more sessions decided it just wasn't worth it. I went to my doctors shortley afterwards and said i needed help but councelling made it worse for me, and he hesitatly gave me Diazapan (valium?) which he said was addictive so not to use it often. My panic attacks have settled since ditching councelling, and i'm back to 1-3 panic attacks a month. This has calmed my panic attacks massivly even though it is the smallest dose available however i really do need a permenant solution. My partner thinks i should give councelling another try, but i had hypnotherapy in mindm is there a good sucess rate for taming this phobia with that method? Help!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I am not familiar with hypnotherapy as a treatment for panic attacks...tho I would imagine it may work. I suffered with anxiety and panic attacks many years ago...I was helped not only thru counseling,but also the books of Dr Claire Weekes.....who was a groundbreaker in the treatment of panic attacks. See if you can find her books..either a good bookshop such as Waterstones, or the library.Good luck,whatever you do.
I'm surprised that you don't seem to know the name of your phobia, emetophobia!

Ask your Gp if you could see a Clinical psychologist. You may have to wait though. Maybe a community psychriatric nurse may be able to help. Discuss the options with your GP.
If you are referred, stick withit even if it is a bit pinful or you are stating to feel slightly better . you need to get to the bottom of your panic attacks and it may well take time, particularly if you are prone to take flight or have difficulty facing your problems and feelings

Thank you, I am going to see my doctor next week and will ask him about seeing some one in the phychiatric department, altho i am 17, i do have a full time job and i'm worried it may cost quite a b it which is another thing i may have trouble with, atho it would be worth paying this phobia affects my life everyday to the point were i can't watch hospital programs, i can't see or see about sick, i can't go into a hospital (mainly A&E) or theme parks, i also am too scared to ever get pregnant due to morning sickness, aswell as having a fear of eating most food, as i only eat those i know that are 'safe' and won't harm me. Thank you for all your help
Haha, well i feel even worse having it young, i can't get as drunk as my friends and things, it's a total life wrecker, i can;t go out to theme parks or spend nights out cos i'm always scared some one will be sick. But i always wante da child wheni was little and as soon as i had this fear, it totally scared me off of it, to the point where it has affected relationships with partners. It's just so annoying!
Do try to give counseling / therapy a chance. I know it is difficult,and sometimes painful.There are times when things WILL seem to get worse......but to achieve freedom from anxiety will make it all worthwhile.
Remind yourself that any phobia is an irrational fear,nothing bad will happen...and you are the one who can control it. Think about the rewards gained when you conquer it.....you can get drunk ( ! ).....you won't have to worry about morning sickness.....you can go on all the theme park rides you want.......and you can pig out on food!!
Mostly...you will feel a hell of a lot better about yourself. x

Firstly good luck with getting this sorted! But if I were you I'd put off having kids until you have this well under control, not only could you suffer from 'morning sickness', but women are often sick at delivery, and babies/children throw up a lot too! Don't let this put you off though, you just need to get the root of your problem.
