Disposal of low energy lamps (bulbs)

I have had a couple of the low energy lamps cease working (after about 2 years but, because of the mercury they contain, I am uncertain of the method of disposal. Presumably they can\'t simply be dropped into the rubbish for disposal at the tip neither, one sopposes can they be put into the reycling bin! so is there a specified \"drop off\" for them? B.

The household waste recycling centres in my area do accept energy-saving lightbulbs. They have a lockable steel storage container that takes llinear flourescent tubes and the energy-saving lightbulbs. These lockable containers seem to be in use at most local authority recycling centres in the UK. Have a look on your council website for details of your nearest centre and what they accept.
Glass is not allowed in the recycling bin in my area, but I wouldn't put them in there as their potentially hazardous given the thinness of the glass used in their construction.

Yes, theprof is right. Any decent self respeting council has to have all the facilities to recycle all household waste. This does not include trade waste, and you will not be able to take old petrol there either! If you don't know where yours is, just ask a friend or your local council. Some make you apply for permits before you go, but these are usually free, so I would do this if I were you, beegee.
