What came first, the chicken or the egg?

We Know that eggs were laid by many reptiles long before the  chicken had evolved, so the answer is the egg.

Altenatively, if you define the question as referring to, specifically, a chicken egg, the answer is  'the chicken' as a chicken egg can only be laid after the first chicken has hatched (from a not-quite-a-chicken egg).

I was the chicken that came before the chicken egg.  Who really cares where the chicken came from, the fact is that to have a true chickens egg then a true chicken has to lay it.  The egg that the chicken came out of could have come from a duck billed platypus for all the difference it makes.

Yeah but if you phrase the question properly it would read "Which came first, the chicken itself or the egg that it came out of", this means without a shadow of a doubt that is was the egg, otherwise the chicken would have had nothing to come out of.

In reality it does not matter.  However, I think the chicken came first as it would have to sit on the egg to incubate it.

 

The serious problem for today is where can you find a tasty chicken and an egg with an orange yolk.

It is dependant on your meaning of "egg" and "chicken" in the question.

I would say that they came at the same time. The instant that the first chicken is conceived, the first chicken egg comes into existance. It may not have been layed yet, but they must both exist together.

Ok, here we go. there are two answers. 1. if you believe in God then the chicken came first, because it magically appeared on the earth. 2. new species are created when there is a genetic mutation in the birth process, so, as trilobite said, a non-chicken creature laid a mutated egg, this hatched and became a more chicken like creature which bread with another non-chicken and so on, until the chicken was created.
