My understanding is that the bio version has enzymes which is said to breakdown the dirt.

Unfortunately this type has caused many skin complaints and some say it is reponsible for the increase in Asthma and chest complaints.
Biological washing powder contains enzymes, non-bio doesn't - it's as simple as that. There are different enzymes in the biological powder. Some will break down proteins such as those found in blood, grass stains, milk, and sweat, while others break down oils and fats. And they can do this at lower temperatures than would be needed to get similar results with a non-bio powder, where only detergents and alkalies are used
I thought that the "bio" meant that it was eco-friendly..i didn't realise it affected the performance of the stuff.
