Despite all the doom and gloom, the job losses and higher taxes, has anyone actually been promoted or been awarded a substantial payrise over the past 12 months -- or is it really as bad as the papers say?? Just interested?? Thanks

I've not been promoted but I understand Gordon is giving me a £2.37 per week rise in April.....I may start job hunting....
I have just received a 20% pay rise when the standard rate was 1% although I have to say I deserve it as I am having to do more as our department has reduced by 50% due to redundancies.
so you've been sailing along doing bugger all with 50% too many staff and now you're getting 'rewarded'...
not quite ... department has always been busy but some were more skilled at letting others carry them and good at disguising it than I have ever been. Now the wastes of space have left I have finally been recognised for the contribution I have been making all along thank you very much!
good on you kirky..........gis a job :-)
I'd love to if I could crafty but I don't hold the reins of power. We could do with people who made a worthwhile contribution to make my life easier but I'd still want to keep the payrise!
I had an incremental rise in April, and a union-negotiated rise in September. No promotion because we just don't have the vacancies that often - we all like working there too much. There have been secondments elsewhere in the service, though. Just that I wasn't interested in any of them.
Not promoted but just got an increase in my salary. That's a real good thing...
I've also got lots of vacation time which will be carried over to next year's.
I don't think its as bad as the press makes out. In the last 12 months I have been promoted from Administrator to a resource consultant/ team lead and received a pay rise. I also have a chance in two months to move to overall resource and communications manager as my current boss retires. I think you will find bigger firms are using other ways of cutting down on staff, for instance the company I work for have changed retirement schemes so that people round 50 would benefit from taking early retirement and therefore keeping the core staff and having natural turnover of staff.
