should i strip my hair?

i recently had a semi permanant dye put on my hair at the hair dressers and although i asked for dark brown it has come out red. my hair was dark blonde naturally and i always had high lights and i really want to get back to that, so i was wondering if stripping my hair of the dye would work and then having my highlights put back in. i would only ever have my hair stripped at the salon but im not sure if it will damage my hair or what it does exactly. please help!
