It's used to buffer the pH to a suitable value, about 5.5

but it's used in very tiny amounts along with suitable acid, to adjust the pH.

AFAIK sodium hydroxide isn't corrosive if its been neutralised by saturating it with a lipid. Most modern soap is made using sodium hydroxide.

However, facewashes are not soap based, they are detergent-based.

A fatty substance eg tallow/oil Doc.

I thought fashwash was maybe some sort of alternative word for a wash for your lady bits... no idea why.....lol
