I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce sphygmomanometer but I need to say it in a presentation in a couple of days.

Can someone please write it phonetically for me as I don't have much of an idea at the moment.

sfig-mom-ann-omeet-er.
I believe it is
Svig mom an om iter
Question Author
thanks jack and vic but lil, my computer won't play that clip! I have heard it said before but the teacher struggled with it and was kind of mumbling . . . .
SFIG
mo
man
OM
ita

Main stress is on the OM but a bit of stress on the first syllable too to give it a bit of rhythm
The stress is on the 'om' so Sfig-mo-man-OM-eter
Just say BP Cuff or Sfig, then you'll sound like an expert

My biology class has been put into pairs and we have to do a revision presentation on the topic, using as many key words as possible, sphygmomanometer is one of the one's in the bit of the topic I have to do!
There are two words in your question title, one of which is spelt correctly, and it isn't the second.
Question Author
I always manage to spell the difficult words correctly . . . . but fail at the easy ones . . .
so what's up with thanking people for their help then?
I suggest you go with Bobjugs idea, say it once and then tell your audience that
....'I'll refer to it as the 'Svig' from now on for obvious reasons'
Question Author
I've written everything out that i'm going to say and made it so I do only have to say it once.

Thanks for trying to help folks I think i'm goign with vicasso's first suggestion.
...then you'll probably get it wrong...think about how the word is formed.

The first part sphygmo, pronounced svig-mo relates to the pulse.

The second part is manometer, pronounced man-om-eter, which is a device for measuring pressure.

So if you think of it in terms of a 'pulse' measuring device it's a sphygmo manometer or svig-mo man-om-eter

Vicasso's answer is a very useful one to bear in mind

Given your recent questions molly, where in earth do you go to school/college and what are you studying for?
Saying sphygmomanometer five times really fast while using one is bound to generate a false reading.
It really doesn´t matter as they will know what you mean........igtret is quite correct in it´s etymology, but I have NEVER heard it pronounced as sphygmo.......manometer.

If that helps.

DTC, not the best high school in the town, doing a-level biology.
Question Author
But IMO, the teachers there (I have 7) are on the whole far better than most of the one's I had/ve at my old high school.
