Little black flies

I have got these little black flies in my house. They look like the sort you get on houseplants or in the soil, but I don't have any plants! Any ideas what they are,where they have come from and how I can KILL THEM as they are driving me mad! TIA

I've got them too. They seem to like hanging round the hamster cage. Thanks to them ive had to limit how much treats i give to Tickle :-(

my mom had them around on of her plants, she put fly paper up and they were gone in a few weeks, they were living on the plant

I have no plants, gone off fruitor a hamster! Just for the record Zippy, I hoover daily as I have two cats......and no the flies are not on them!

Do you have kids? Have they 'posted' a Marmite sandwich behind a radiator somewhere?

Are they tiny little things about 2mm long? I get them in my house. I have a pottery pot I keep potatos in and that seems to attract them. I get them in the bathroom as well but I don`t think they originate there.

I had them from bird seed. Do you use dry cat food?

Doesn't help me with Tickle the hamster does it Zippy? He'll disappear up the nozzle!

If they are fruit flies they are breeding on and coming from something that is rotting... the only way to get rid of them for sure is to find the source and deal with it.

It might be a drain, a bin, or anywhere that decomposable things are rotting.

Well, you can't use fly spray because of your pets so the best thing is to get some kind of fly paper . As already said, it sounds very much like fruit flies to me and they are a real nuisance to get rid of.
