If we built a ship today big enough to carry two of every species how long deep and wide would it have to be?

also, 2 of every species on close quarters would not have been a good idea, there would be tonnes worth of insect and bird life, did they count plants and tree's that are considered alive as well?
What about the Law of conservation of Matter?

///The law of conservation of mass or of matter, also known as the Lomonosov-Lavoisier law, states that the mass of substances in a closed system will remain constant, no matter what processes are acting inside the system. It is a different way of stating that though matter may change form, it can be neither created nor destroyed. The mass of the reactants must always equal the mass of the products.///

Where did all this water come from or disappear to?
Just ask these guys - they are building a replica ark, faithfully following Gods instruction manual. You can even sponsor a plank as well! ;)

£1000 for a plank!!!

I'm off to setup a wood yard near Cincinnati!
Sorry, $1000..... but all the same that's an expensive plank of wood!
-- answer removed --
By a plank, do you mean a strip of wood, or one of the people who believes this nonsense? One long plank probably costs the same as two short ones.
But do they have the same thickness?
Ah yes, gopherwood is hard to get nowadays.
The building an ark link is to a project run by Answers in Genesis, the creationists who run the spectacularly inane Creation Museum in Kentucky.

Mark Rae is wrong, incidentally. Blue whales and every other species of fish *would* have had to have been accomodated on the Biblical Ark; the supposed volume of water would have resulted in water that could support neither freshwater nor salt water fish. For the former, the salinity would be too high, for the latter too low.

Not that that's the only absurdity about that particular story...
@ waldo - you do realise i posted that link tongue in cheek dont you? I should hope so.........
I wasn't sure if you knew, to be honest.
Could the flood myth have a basis in the flooding that followed the end of the ice age?
@Waldo - yes, I knew - Frankly I am amazed at the State Governors compliance in allowing said creation theme park to be built - Ken Ham must have Gods help in helping his sales technique ;)

There is something rather murky about the whole planning process it seems - it was drawn up by a mate of Ken Hams, unyet no one seems to get a hold of it. Ham also insists it will be sooo popular that it will attract 200 million visitors a year and create many thousands of jobs - even for atheists, for those roles that do not require an intimate knowledge of scripture! :)

I posted the link because I thought it was a/ funny and b/ blatant in its gouging - I mean, $1,000 a plank??!!
Clearly the new ark is supported by 'planks' in more than one way.
Gopher wood is remarkably expensive.
Is there an echo in here?
@Waldo
You do realise that blue whales aren't fish?
Haaa! Sorry Tim, I didn't see your answer. Must be great minds and all that ....
Tim, your post of 12.08. Grandmothers and eggs spring to mind.
