cubes melt; crystals dissolve
Cubes of jelly melt ... Jelly powder crystally stuff (?) dissolves.
snap :-)
Jelly dissolves in boiled water and then sets in the mould when it chills/cools down. No idea why it does that and I have been making (or helping my mum make) rowntrees jellies for 50 years
on a packet of Rowntrees jelkly it says 'dissolve in boiled water'
Jelkly, I hate that faux-jelly stuff ... maybe that's why it says 'dissolve'?

pmsl, I'm sorry x
Crystals dissolve, cubes melt and then dissolve into a weaker solution than they start as.

All jelly cubes are is jelly crystals that have already been dissolved in a smaller amount of water than you would require to make the finished jelly.
