Why are there so many naming protocols for exoplanets? I've seen Wasp, Gliese and NGC used.

I would imagine that planets are named after their parent star - think 3rd rock from the sun - so it will depend on what the star is called - big enough/ well-known enough to have a name or simply an NGC reference?
