The Northern Lights Jed. In the southern hemisphere they are known as the Southern Lights or Aurora Australis.

The lights are formed by particles from the solar wind being channelled into the Earth's atmosphere along lines of the planet's magnetic field.. When those particles collide with atoms in the atmosphere they emit light - red for hydrogen, green for oxygen I think.
Er, on the assumption that you aren't joking and that you can't connect to Google for some reason, it's the northern lights...
