I thought we started out as scavengers, I'm sure I watched a programme that said we developed a bigger brain than man other animals because we'd eat the remainder of a bigger predators catch which included the brain. Might be rubbish!
Anyway, I'd got for poultry before I had a go at a bison.. but if I had to, I'd jump on it's back and get it in a really tight headlock, I'm talking about a young one obv, I'm not a frikkin tiger!!
you ever tried to catch a rabbit that didnt want to be caught? thats assuming it came out of the right warren hole when you were waiting...

early humans were not as intelligent, they did not just instantly invent weapons...it happened over a very long time...but you are missing the point i am making...we eat meat because we have the brains to, not because physically we are equipped to...
Ah, yes I have ... next question.
And the point made by others...we are physically equipped to as we've been doing it so long.
I was never missing a point, my first post here was in response to the OP, I haven't read any of the thread posted before that, so I have no idea who is arguing with whom about what ... nor do I need to.
"not because physically we are equipped to..."

What are teeth and tongue used for?

Btw, I'm vegetarian, have been all my life, and never tasted meat. I don't eat meat, fish, eggs etc.
Why not society? Just curious...

Nazzy - read it :-)
Naah.
Ummmy, I refused it when I was a baby and parents never pursue...
I prepare meat, fish if I have to but never have the desire to try it.

Eggs, I have a scorn for it, can't stand the scent of it either.
I'm not a big meat eater...I put it on my plate but rarely have more than a few mouthfuls. Unless it's duck...I'll finish duck :-)...didn't eat meat for years myself.

Like fish though...
* Intestinal tract length. Carnivorous animals have intestinal tracts that are 3-6x their body length, while herbivores have intestinal tracts 10-12x their body length. Human beings have the same intestinal tract ratio as herbivores.
* Stomach acidity. Carnivores’ stomachs are 20x more acidic than the stomachs of herbivores. Human stomach acidity matches that of herbivores.
* Saliva. The saliva of carnivores is acidic. The saliva of herbivores is alkaline, which helps pre-digest plant foods. Human saliva is alkaline.
* Shape of intestines. Carnivore bowels are smooth, shaped like a pipe, so meat passes through quickly — they don’t have bumps or pockets. Herbivore bowels are bumpy and pouch-like with lots of pockets, like a windy mountain road, so plant foods pass through slowly for optimal nutrient absorption. Human bowels have the same characteristics as those of herbivores.
* Fiber. Carnivores don’t require fiber to help move food through their short and smooth digestive tracts. Herbivores require dietary fiber to move food through their long and bumpy digestive tracts, to prevent the bowels from becoming clogged with rotting food. Humans have the same requirement as herbivores.
* Cholesterol. Cholesterol is not a problem for a carnivore’s digestive system. A carnivore such as a cat can handle a high-cholesterol diet without negative health consequences. A human cannot. Humans have zero dietary need for cholesterol because our bodies manufacture all we need. Cholesterol is only found in animal foods, never in plant foods. A plant-based diet is by definition cholesterol-free.
* Claws and teeth. Carnivores have claws, sharp front teeth capable of subduing prey, and no flat molars for chewing. Herbivores have no claws or sharp front teeth capable of subduing prey, but they have flat molars for chewing. Humans have the same characteristics as herbivores.
I'm not reading all that ^^^ without a steak to pass the time.
no we are not physically equipped to...our bodies in no way resemble a meat eater...

we eat it because we have sussed a way to, not because our bodies are made that way

still waiting for osmeone to explain exactly how they would do it...
I remember in biology class the teacher said our incisors are for tearing the meat apart.
We eat it because it tastes good, what other reason do we need?
* Meat-eaters: have claws
Herbivores: no claws
Humans: no claws

* Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue
Herbivores: perspire through skin pores
Humans: perspire through skin pores

* Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding
Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

* Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

* Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat
Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

* Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.
Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits
Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits

* Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
no reason at all naz, if you like it...just making the point that we are not really very well designed to...we just do it because exactly as you stated - we can
i am not trying to convert anyone here or be against meat eaters... i am not the sort of veggie that lecture people...but there are loads of sites with all this info on, im not just making all this up for some crusade...

check them out...you will see what i mean
Are you sure the sites don't exaggerate for their own crusade?
I'm going to ask a very stupid question -

So, do people who eat meat body changes to adapt to the meat-eating body type?
