Yesterday in his absorbing series he showed a rock so old it must have formed during the big bang and arrived by a passing meteorite or comet. A slice taken showed small remnants of nucleic acids (DNA). Only last week a similar rock showed a simple bacterium.

Are there any suggestions how it got there?

something left trace as the rock formed, long process, but he makes it all sound so plausible and scientific, i think alot of God Botherers will be abit miffed
Er..no chance. There was only plasma for a long time after the big bang, rock came much later. Nucleic acids are not DNA (desoxyribonucleic acid) No conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial bacteria in meteorites so far.
Lol Maybe not jomifl but I wonder if a unit of leg hosiery has ever been found in meteorites in the form of desoxyribonucleic acid?
Hi Prof. :-) it seems that almost anything can be found in meteorites but perhaps not in meteors.
no the rock formed long after the big bang, it was older than anything on Earth. It did not have DNA it had amino acids the precursors for life. You really should pay attention rov! The inference is that molecules are forming in nebulea etc he showed a graph representing the contents of the orion nebula demonstrating that complex molecules are forming from the available elements. This suggests that amino acids can be formed off Earth as it where and the meteorite is an example.
yes, it's important to listen very carefully during serious science programmes. Best to watch then at least twice and make notes if you find it useful.
Scientists suffer a lot from people with ulterior motives misquoting them.

That rock was at least 4.5 million years old. Did you get that!
yes and the big bang is 13.5 Billion years old. The rock is about the same age as the earth. The rock was formed 9 billion years after the BB, so hardly "formed during"!
to echo vascop, you really need to pay attention in science programs.

Prof Geezer you are an insult to your profession....what is it a clerical worker in banking? You should stay there.
I work in a bank but I'm not a clerical worker, do not make assumptions about me. Stay out of science you have the sense of a 5 year old. You clearly have no idea about cosmology/physics/astronomy. Look at your ridiculous question, 2 points both light years off, stay in chatterbank eh then you won't need an IQ greater than your shoe size. Just read your own question and imagine someone else wrote it and then you'd see it was by someone who watched the show but barely listened to a word. Watch eastenders next time.
