It's a dinner dance. Can I get away with my crushed velvet I bought a couple of years ago? It has sleeves to the elbow, 'A' line comes mid calf length, with a gathered bit at the boobs with a little two inch long narrow diamante bar going down lengthwise making it a sweetheart neckline . That one is black, or I've a deep green sleeveless silky dress with a sparkly green organdie over dress with hankerchief points. I have some nice heels to wear and have an up-do with my hair (auburn) . Or is crushed velvet and hankerchief points too old fashioned, I'm not really in to fashion I just don't want to appear frumpy!
As loing as you are comfortable, your friends will think you look nice, your non-friends will pull you to pieces, but since you don't hear the second lot, who carers!
I wore the same evening frock to every one of Dh's DD's for 20 years then switched to black velvet trousers with sparkly tops. Wear what you feel comfortable in.
I agree comfort is a big plus here. Not sure what the programme is but you will likely be sitting down to eat and then possibly on your feet cutting a rug all night. Both sound lovely and black is a classic, but i would opt for the green because everyone else will be wearing black :-). hope you have fun
I think I'll see what the weather's like, If it's cold and snowy I'll wear the velvet, if not the green. I've another 'do' to go to in the firt week of the New Year, a retirement do so both will get an airing now I know I can get away with not having to buy something else. Thanks to all who answered
