Hi. I have just recently started to receive DLA for my young daughter, and was surprised to hear that they'd given us a £10 Xmas bonus?? Whilst this is very nice & kind, I can't help feel that loads of (well deserving) people are having benefits cut, and here we are getting a bonus - I just think it would be better spent given it to pensioners for winter fuel or something similar, and it would save a huge amount of funds surely if this was scrapped?

What is DLA?

The pensioners already get the £10 bonus.............
the money is probably cut throughout the rest of the year, making it look like a bonus?

Yeah I know Craft; and this I can fully understand, but when you hear of how there is not enough resources to give those who do genuinely qualify for certain benefits, I'm shocked that we actually got this bonus - it wasn't expected and I would have happily passed it by to someone more deserving?
If you feel that strongly about it meg, why not donate it to a charity?
You'll find that the £10 you recieved was a CWP (Cold Weather Payment)
Not a bonus.
If the temperature drops below freezing 0 you get this payment if you are on
DLA. You should also be getting the £200 anual fuel allowance.
(check it out.)

jem
the £10 is a bonus, the cold weather payment is £25 pounds

We are going to. My daughter and I will be shopping on Fri, and I'm going to let her choose where it goes to (there will be plenty of collectors about) as after all, it is for her well being it is being received for. But that is not my point, if this was only paid out to people who really needed it, I'm sure it would put a huge amount of funds back in the pot?? I suppose it's not fair of me to speculate who 'needs' it more than others, as I am fortunate enough to work, hence my first thought was to give it to charity.

PS Jem, it is definitely Xmas bonus as it stated that it was this when they wrote.
I think the problem would then be deciding on who "needs" it meg. Means testing everyone in receipts of benefits would probably cost the DWP more than they would save.

I think it's lovely that you're going to let your daughter choose a charity.
Jemisa, you don't get the annual fuel allowance just because you are in reciet of DLA, only pensioners are entitled to the fuel allowance.
*receipt*
And you don't get the cold weather payment if you are on DLA or state pension.
You need to be in receipt of means tested benefits as well, such as pension credit.
