Are Christmas Celebrations Going Out Of Fashion?
Just wondering, not the Religious celebrations but the 'commercial' ones. Christmas was just another christian festival before Queen Victoria brought into fashion Christmas Cards and Trees. So many people I've talked to (and on here) have either not celebrated as they used to, or are just glad its all over. Is it an 'Age; thing -when your kids grow up there is no more 'magic' about christmas day -or is it everyone has had it up to the eyes with christmas now starting in October?

I still love Christmas retro ... I'm 56 ... still feel the magic of it. It's everything in moderation & a reminder to have a little humanity for others. That's my kind of Christmas anyway.

For me, Christmas always been about children, first of all when you are one, and later if you have kids, it becomes all about them, and you enjoy it through them as it were. When they in turn grow out of it, you lose interest.
I suppose if grandchildren come along, you become interested again, but I'm not at that stage yet.

Blackadder thanks for the info. I was always told Queen Victoria 'invented' christmas as we know it introducing Father Christmas,Trees and gifts. We celebrate Yule from the Summer Solstice up until January 6th but the stuff brought into the home at Yule sticks around until Imbolc at the beginning of February.
Too much pressure is put on parents at xmas time. Not just financially but timewise. It's so commercial and like a big competition.
I agree that the adverts starting in October make people weary by December.
I actually enjoy xmas day but that's because I go to the in-laws and all I have to do is some washing up.
