....when you are in a fantastic restaurant having just about the best meal ever and......
The young couple to your right aren't bothering with each other.....he is on his mobile phone for the whole meal and she is..well just eating quietly...
The couple on your left are elderlyish......as they sit down her phone rings and for the next fifteen minutes they face time with a granddaughter...quite noisily...ignoring the arrival of their starters and the waiter.....
Eventually they stop and eat their meal in silence....the whole meal????
Not a word they said to each other....
What happened to enjoying a meal together......asking to congratulate the chef....it was one of those meals where you had to do that....and discovering he's a twenty three year old lad who devises his own recipes....and they were just wonderful....x

I'd be too busy enjoying lovely meal and company to notice .
It is odd. I bring my phone out 'just in case' but I wouldn't dream of getting it out or ignoring a waiter. That's just rude. So is playing on your phone when you're in company.
Aquasul must have really gone downhill since I was last there :)
Actually, this post makes me wonder if I'm alone among ABers in that I do not have a mobile phone, and have never had one. Anyone else?
I think that is normal these days. My friend stayed in an apartment overseas and he could see into the window of the apartment next door. He could see the parents and the two kids. All of them were sitting at the breakfast table whilst looking on their phones. He nicknamed them the e-family. Sad, isn't it?

Nothing...it is still happening.
They’re both probably saying ‘did you see that nosey old bat staring at us whilst we were trying to enjoy our meal’.
I promise to leave my phone at home if you come out to dinner, Guess.

Oh come on, Anne.......you'd be dull if you didn't want to take in all that was going on around you....the people....the decor....the music which was bliss tonight......I couldn't just eat in a coccoon....a meal out is an experience....but not with a phone...x

I think it's rude, Ummmmm....and you miss so much..x

Haven't got there, GG......still in Spain....but I will toast you when I do!

It is sad, 237....there is so much else to see besides a screen.....especially if the waiter's a dish.... :-)
Zacs.....I'll be if you asked them who the other diners were they wouldn't have a clue....but I know you're just taking the opportunity to call me a nosey old bat.....and I won't argue..... ;-)

You're on, Hoppy.....you must know about the jug of water on my dinner table at home though.... :-)
Mind you, ipads are the best thing EVER to keep kids quiet on flights. I wish they had been invented years ago (I expect their parents did too)
I'd be dull ? Lol .
I'm a bit worried.

Is it going to be tipped over my head?

You must want to take in your surroundings and the other diners surely, Anne...that's part of the evening...x

For family meals, Hoppy.....especially with all the grandchildren now.....there is a jug of water.....any phone coming out at the table will go into it..... :-)
Ipads have parents?
Phew
Do you remember when people used to go on holiday and not ‘update’ people on AB
I'd be disappointed if my dining partner did anything other than take an urgent call.

I recall threads about Las Vegas......updates about a get together in Birmingham.....and perhaps Scottish Islands......just can't recall which aber it was who posted them....perhaps banned or user inactive.....

Is it any different to weight loss threads, Islay? And if so why?
being partially deaf along with relatives and blind
meals out tend to be OAPs behaving badly
with the converesation clearly audible in the four corners of the room.
My party piece on leaving is to walk into closed doors and say 'oh'
