Warehouse Padded Coat

I have a lovely, warm, Warehouse padded jacket which has a stupidly voluminous hood!
When I pull up the fur trimmed hood it comes down over my nose to the top of my top lid. Even with a hat on it's still far too big and stupidly irritating. I can't see anything.
How can I reduce the capacity of the hood without ruining what is a cosy, waterproof, dog walking coat. Today, out in the rain and wind, I found it very irksome.

Any ideas? I am not a seamstress, by the way.

Hasn't it got a cord Tilly? Mine's big but OK when I tie it.
Question Author
No, LB. No cord, I'm afraid. Just poppers to secure it when it's enveloping my head.
Is there a hidden zip whereby you can detach the fur trim?
I hate hoods Tilly, chip it off, tuck it in and hand sew it up. Or ... get someone to do that for you.
*chop*
Make a fold in the back, then put some velcro on each side and attach together. I am not very good at describing things, but if you look at some walking coats in the outdoor shops, they are made with the velcro to allow you to adjust the hood. You will then see what I mean.
Mine has that facility.
^^ Great idea!

I can detach the hood but not the fur trim, 237.

Eleena, I don't know how to go about chop, tuck and sew. Perhaps I need to take it to a tailor's in town?
Question Author
I have two other jackets that have the reduction facility, Ubasses. I'll have a look and a think about it. It's a good idea though.

Honestly, there must be at least twelve inches of spare material on this hood. What a stupid design. Or maybe I have a smaller than average cranium?
Try asking locally Tilly for a good seamstress .. Facebook? Should be cheaper.
I would take it to a tailor and ask them to alter it
Someone will know somebody out there who can sew adequately Tilly .. cheaper than a ‘tailor’

I don't do Facebook, Eleena, but I will consider asking on Nextdoor. Thanks for that.
Should work out cheaper Tilly.
Question Author
Thanks, again, Eleena.
I seem to have exactly the same design of coat but mine is not from Warehouse! I agree it is very annoying.

My solution: put on the coat and pull up the hood (which flops down over my face). Turn the furry section back on itself twice- - The fur is now all tucked inside away from the rain and I can see again!
Then wrap a scarf around the outside and tie loosely under chin.
I have a coat with a daft hood like that. I took it to a local lady who opened up a seam, took a piece of material out and sewed the seam up again. Very clever, I certainly couldn't have done it and it worked a treat.
I have a coat like that, I just don't use the hood and wear a hat instead.
It's probably a cheap coat!;-)
My coats are the same! I thought It was because I must have a small head! Annoying and dangerous when crossing the road!

By the way, I put the whiskey chicken recipe under the thread on CB.
