think i'd have to go for david bowie's Jean genie....
curryman, i agree with you 100%! its by far one of the best intro's.
if you like the intro to bitter sweet symphony, listen to andrew loog oldham's version of "the last time", which you'll find oddly familiar....
I quite like the guitar intro of 'This Charming M.an' by The Smiths......oh, and 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns and Roses.
if you just on about intros what about jimi hendrix voodoo chile. but thats just the first one that came into my head . i guess it depends a lot how old you are. im only 53. but there are some superb intros which maybe dont lead into such a good song. but then there are some not so good intros that lead into a great song, or am i just talking sh*t,
purple rain or when doves cry by Prince
Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell (One of the longest as well)
I'd agree with Blackfoot, and also add Smells Like Teen Spirit for its raw energy, plus Eye of the Tiger, Layla and Johnny B. Goode.
Franz Ferdinand class, bitter Sweet Symphany is great and Can't Stop - Chilli Peppers
je t'aime (moi non plus)
Motorhead - Ace of Spades has to rank near the top of my list ... but's it's far from a definitive list ... there's endless possibilities, all equally good
Iron maiden, 'phantom of the opera' takes some beating
Another vote for 'Sweet Child O Mine' here :o)

Others I like are 'The Voice' by Ultravox, 'Long Hot Summer' by The Style Council, 'What difference Does It Make' by The Smiths & 'Dignity' by Deacon Blue.

'Ordinary Angel' by Hue and Cry: an "eveything but the kitchen sink" intro. And 'Dr Mabuse' by Propaganda.
'No More Heroes' by the Stranglers
