Far too much!!
Every year I plan on spending less, but it never happens :-) I would probably have a hear attack if I actually sat down and added it up.
With the bare minimum of people to gift, travel expenses, etc., it totals to between $1,500 and $1,800 US. We save all year for it, though, so we enjoy spending it.
As little as possible. All our friends & family have the same attitude - keep it to immediate family and keep it simple. A well thought-out gift costing 20 beats an X-box any day if it shows thought and an understanding of the person you are buying for.
Imagine if the credit card transaction system went down for the next three weeks and the shops closed. People would have to make things, actually visit relations instead of just poisting a gift, or do things. Chopping wood for an elderly person, for example, gives so much more to the giver & receiver than a gift token.
So many poor souls get into (or further into) debt because of peoples expectations at Christmas. I hate seeing all those debt-consolidation adverts at New Year.
Christmas dinner is our biggest single expense probably, and well worth it to have everyone round the table.
don't care how much i spent, luv christmas, get great joy of giving gifts and seeing the look of excitement on peoples faces as they open their presents.
probably about 800, that includes gifts, paper, cards and decs as every year i like to buy a few new decs! Although its probably more in truth, but i love christmas so i dont care lol
the same as me nothing the whole thing is a complete waste of time and money and one big con why every one goes mad at christmas is beyond me it is just one more day in the calendar just like and no different to the rest
