Every Christmas we get a card from a cousin and her family. She alway's write's "To X,X and Fly" ( Meaning Family.) Wishing you etc etc. Lots of love from. Z,Z and Fly". Is this laziness or does she have a thing about flies?:-)
what constitutes a genuine reply then?
maybe people write genuine replies to genuine questions (ie, you get the answers you deserve?)
i was just wondering if you were just lazy or if you had a thing about the words "do you" :)
never seen 'fly' in meaning family before, usually put mr and mrs **** and Fam. maybe she/he has had to write loads of cards, and hand is aching by the time it gets to you? You could always ask other memebers of the XX family, me............... i wouldnt look that deeply into it, its only a card??
I think that being British and awkward and intransigent is part of our heritage.
I mean, sheesh, for goodness sake, why make life simple when you can cause trouble ?
I suggest you go back to bed, and get out the other side!
Someone gives a GENUINE reply and you get all sh!!ty.
You complain about some relative writing in shorthand, (so it looked just like this cousin was putting XX and ZZ), then say you put the initials, attack Ratter because probably like everyone else reading your question, he thought that this person was writing ZZ and XX. Please explain what dyu means - I hate text speak??
Sounds as though she has a lot of cards to write and shortens things up just a bit too much.
When I send any cards I try and find out all the names (for example if its my husbands work colleagues and they have wife/husband/children) although sometimes its impossible with everyone.
I've never shortened my cards to that extent ever though. I suppose its a sign of times with texting and things everything gets shortened and words are re-invented.
I did also think you meant she was writing "to X,X from ZZ" i thought they were initials or something. I wouldnt take it personally i just think everyone has their own style of shorthand and i bet she does it to everyone on her cards list and not just you :)
Well I agree with you daisy, it's rude and lazy. The only time its ok to write '+ fly' is when its cards from work people that don't actually know your family. I'm in line for a good moan here. I used to hate it as a child when we got family cards written to M, D, girls and X (ie putting parents names and brothers name but lumping us girls together). Also get annoyed at sister-in-law who writes 'and family' - my kids are the only nieces and nephews she has, but she can't be bothered to write their name.
Feel better for that now, glad I got that off my chest!!
Thanks to those who gave me a helpful reply. I used the letter's X an Y instead of both our's and my cousin's name. Im actually very fond of my cousin and likewise and it's a standing joke in the family that she alway's writes "Fly" insead of "Family". This was a tongue in cheek post. I did not ask to be abused by you bednobs, whiffey, muffty and eejit and neither was I moaning. Its Christmas and Im happy:-))
daisy take no notice from the people who are trying to be smart it was a fair enough question i feel people dont understand you sense of humour and are too quick to give you a hard time ................ you ask what you want to ask.
daisy i dont think you are hated i just think people are a bit intollerant of the older generation and the views expressed, there is room for everyone on here i hope you have a happy peaceful xmas.
