Radio 1 have decided to censor the Pogues' classic christmas record "Fairytale of New York".

The song, which has been popular since first charting in 1987, is now deemed offensive. Radio 1 are playing the record with some naughty words edited out.

Hmmm, have to agree with you gromit (much as i hate to).
This song was, and still is a classic xmas song.
I heard it on my local radio station today and it wasnt censored. It must only be radio 1 that are doing it.

There's more spirit and soul in that song than any flipping Maria Carey nonsense and don't even get me started on the clap trap from that X Factor garbage. I find all that rubbish more offensive than the Pogues.

I was listening to Radio 1 this morning and during the news they read out the words that had been edited out.

As usual this will backfire as people will want to hear the song to know what all the fuss is about

well, suppose the song had been recorded a few years earlier and had contained the N word for instance (I can't even spell it out on AB) - cut it out as offensive or not? BBC1 cutting it and BBC2 not sounds reasonable enough to me; the song will survive if it's good enough.

Also, Radio 1's Colin Murray is championing a song called "we're all going to die" by Malcolm Middleton, to get it number one at Christmas.

Are they going to ban this song because the title might offend people?
