Postage Stamps

Why are there so many unfranked postage stamps at this time of the year. Is it because of the number of different shapes of cards do you think.

Surcharging unfranked stamps is a useful revenue earner for the post office. More and more stamp-less cards are being delivered by the senders!

perhaps the high tech equipment can't cope with the different sized envelopes. I have had a few cards with ink crosses on the stamps.

When I used to do the Christmas Post as a student, (many, many years ago) we were told to deface any unfranked stamps with a Biro before we put them thought the letter boxes.

Sometimes this still happens here but mostly they just arrive unfranked these days.

I must have the only postie with a biro stops me peeling them off to re use.

its harder to peel the self adhesive ones off envelopes.

There are ways with a bit of warm water and time.

If you do that, you're best not mentioning it :-) - but I understood that with the volume of post going through the frankers at this time of year, some get stuck underneath others, and get missed.

^^^ boxtops has it right, it is the sheer volume of mail at Christmas some get missed.
