Icelandic Weather

I'm having a dilemma about what clothes I may need to take at the end of August / beginning of September?

I know they tend to have good summer weather, but I'm wondering what the liklihood is of us experiencing howling wind and rain as soon as September arrives!!.....I'd be interested to know if anyone has visited iceland at this time of year, and how they found the weather.

Also, is there a good or bad time to do the whale watching?
