This morning on the radio someone phoned in to say they were well ahead with their preparations for tomorrow. One was making stock with the giblets and the other wrapping bits of bacon round chipolatas. They had got the capons and were next going to prepare the vegetables and put them in cold water until tomorrow. Then the presenter asked how many were coming to the feast. She then said - oh there's just the two of us. Is this not a bit over the top, or do others go to all this trouble in advance for two people?

Yes! I think it's way over the top! Leaving vegetables to soak in cold water will destroy any nutritional value!
They have the time, the ability & the patience to prepare food like this instead of having a ready meal. It shows they have love for each other & care about the food they eat. They are normal cooking methods even with the capons (guinea fowl).
