What a stupid country we are becoming, a laughing stock to others, now they cant have the traditional Pancake Race in Ripon because of 'elf and Safety" whatever next, are we not going to be able to hold on to anything that is traditionally British ? if it was something for an ethnic minority I bet they would allow it.

Unfortunately it is due to the compensation culture that has spread from across the pond.

So now everywhere has to ridiculously conscious of health and safety so they are not sued if some idiot falls over due to his/her own stupidity.

It is not a 'health and safety' issue brought about by any changes in health & safety legislation.This situation has come about due to the fear brought about by the compensation culture which uses common law built up over hundreds of years rather than health&safety law per se. I canot imagine any health and safety person banning pancake races, games of conkers, egg and spoon races- these are myths. What happens is that event organisers need public liability insurance and this is expensive because of the high costs if anything goes . Often it is so expensive organisers decide to cancel the event.
