My friend has given up chocolate for Lent but is really struggling. Is there any loophole that allows for just a little bit of the aforementioned without offending Him? I heard somewhere (Chris Evans? that there's an argument that Sunday's don't count). It's making her really ratty which of course is having a knock-on effect.

I have given up chocolate (& sometimes crisps) a few times for lent and only found out last year that sundays don't count. But if I'd known that I probably would have stuffed my face with an easter egg every sunday lol !

Sorry if the link does not work
Sundays are regarded as a day of celebration so do not count in the 40 days.
your friend could try what i do. I find myself making cakes, bicuits and gingerbread men to satisfy the sweet tooth
Forty days isn't all that long. We're a third of the way through Lent already. I've also given up chocolate (I only eat Cadbury's Dairy Milk) but I'm making sure that nobody brings any chocolate into the house so that I'm not tempted! Good luck to your friend. By the way, there are absolutely no let-off days!

Thanks all.

I will relay the good (?) news. Personally, I don't think it'll be that difficult as I'm mid 40's and had one maybe two bars a week during childhood. My younger friend has been brought up to think that two to three bars daily is acceptable and this is what makes abstaining so difficult.

I was sorely tempted today at my local Co-op store. Displayed at the check-out were large blocks of my favourite Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate cars at 99p each. Yes, only 99p each! I didn't succomb and managed to contain my craving.

How are you others getting along during Lent?
I gave up chocolate 3 years ago and have never missed it. Nor have I missed the extra stone of fat I lost when I did give it up.
It is true, that sundays don't count in the 40 days of lent, personally, however, I don't see the point in giving up something if it is not at least a little bit hard.
It is all about finding one's strenghts and beating the temptations, isn't it.

I mean, I can easily give up black pudding for lent, since I never eat it anyway.
Or I can give up chocolate for weekdays and then stuff myself on sundays.
Both feels like cheating to me.

The true uplifting feeling of YES, I DID IT! only comes, when you really did it!

And I really don't think God gives a sh*** whether or not you eat chocolate.
