Diamond Wedding Anniversary
14 Answers
My grandparents celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary next month. We are organising a party at the family home. Any ideas what we can do to make it more special. To give it some context, they were born in 1925 and 1927 - grandad served in the army at Anzio (amongst other places, and NO the Americans were not first in there!) and then was part of the forgotten army in Palestine. We really want to make the day special for them. So far we have organised a card from Queenie, and I shall provide "big band" music from the era. have made enquiries about a Spitfire fly past (but unlikely to be unsuccessful). Can anyone help with any ideas to make it an extra special day for them, please.

You could also have fireworks, make them a scrapbook of the year they were married, with pics of the place, newspapers' cuttings, and pics of their wedding if they had them.
I'm sure they will appreciate the fact you have gone to such lengths anyway, and will just be so happy to have all their loved ones there to celebrate their amazing life with them!

I LOVE China's idea too. I already ran that past mum and she was anti (she's the boss). As she said, everyone is 80+ and they just can't be bothered. I tried to argue the toss with her, but it ain't happening. Although me and my siblings may go for it since I just love that era. Women dressed like women and men like gentlemen. Best idea I have had so far is a "this is your life type scenario" with pics on a laptop and film reel from that day and age.
For my grandparents' diamond wedding, my mum and I dragged out all the old photos and made three big photo boards.
Th first one had their wedding at the top and carried on through the birth of their children and through the years as they grew up - holidays, pets, relatives,. The seconboard began with my grandparents at mum and dad's wedding and progressed through my sister and I bein born and grown up, the thir one stated with my wedding and ended with photos of gran and papa as the very proud great grandparent's of my two girls.
We put the boards up at the party and everybody loved it.It was a good trip down memory lane for lots of people and gran still has the boards hanging on her wall. We trid to include as many of the people and places that were important to them over the years as we could,
Hope you all have a lovely time whatever you decide to do.
