One Of Life's Unanswered Puzzles.
Unsure if I've asked here before but... why do cafés and supermarkets claim to offer free WiFi, get your device to claim it is connected, then have it say you aren't connected to Internet ?
Is it some kind of hilarious jape that I'm missing the humour of ? They all seem to do it.

It's inexpensive and gives freedom about when to add credit. But WiFi in supermarkets is necessary if they expect customers to show store card type stuff. But apparently it's more amusing to claim to provide a connection yet not do so.
