Has anyone had any problems with silver Tiffany jewellery turning black? My sister has a ring and after one wear the inside started turning black. She took it back and they replaced it but now the same thing has happened again. This is a genuine Tiffany ring from the Bond St store.

My necklace had gone black in between the links (it's quite chunky) but a quick dip in some silver cleaner soon sorted this out. And now I look carefully, the cut out bits on my ring (hard to describe...) are pretty black too. But nothing I think couldn't be fixed with a normal silver cleaner from a jeweller. Certainly my jewellery wasn't blackened after one wear.

i have a gucci bracelet that did the same thing...its so annoying, i used silver cleaner like missmoore suggests and its much better. its still a bit black but i dont know what else to do!!

I got told by a jeweller that for some reason if silver jewellrey isnt worn lots or some bits not in contact with the skin then it goes black... Dont know why but hope this helps

its called oxidisation and often happens pretty quick on new jewellery thats been stored in the shop ages. Once its been cleaned with silver cleaner it will last a while when worn regularly before requiring cleaning again but will require cleaning again sooner if not worn. Its normal, natural and nothing to worry about - infact it proves it silver and not fake

i have a silver bracelet that i hadnt worn for years and i cleaned it but putting a piece of tin foil in the bottom of a glass bowl of salt water, left it for 10 mins n it was as good as new!! apparently the foil does something to clean the silver lol xx

It's just tarnishing, as janetsflower said. All silver does it no matter where it comes from. :o)

apparently if you put a bit of chalk next to silver ina jewellry box it stops it going black. All my silver jewellry does it. I just bought a silver cloth and clean it with that now and again. I have too much to wear all at the same time.

Hi, those before me have given good advice, but it might be worth adding the following;
a) if you use an anti-oxide cleaning liquid or cream, you need to thoroughly wash and dry the residue off, otherwise it will be the residue or dampness which would turn the silver black again even more quickly than before
b) some skins are more acidic than others, and can speed up the build up of the oxides on silver. The recent heat-wave wouldn't help (heat and damp conditions are not good for silver)
c) when storing and not wearing silver, keep in a cool dry place...silver will still oxidise if not used at all but this will help, and you can also buy anti-acid tissue and felt for bigger items
