hollywood themed ball

I have just been invited to a Charity Ball which is a Hollywood themed ball. Perhaps I don't get out much but what on earth is a Hollywood themed ball. I am guessing that this involves dressing up and carrying on as if one was a Hollywood Star (heaven help us), and for women the dress code is probably easy, nice designer dress etc but what about the men. Is one expected to wear evening suit bow tie etc at this kind of shindig. Suggestions appreciated.

how about a smart trouser a bright striped shirt and a leather jacket with some smart shoes and sunglasses(can be taken off easily if everyone else is more understated...a look brad pitt always uses on the red carpet not too casual not to try hard..if everyone else is more dressed up a tie can easily be kept in a pocket.

i would go with some jeans nice shoes and a shirt smart but casual there will be people there in the same.
