Rip off Designer Glasses
7 Answers
My daughter is getting new glasses and wants the expensive Designer glasses. Can anyone advise me if the lens that go into the cheap glasses are the exact same lens that go into the more expensive frames. I don't mind paying for the dear frames to keep her happy as all her friends have gone designer, but i would like her to know that she is paying extra just to have a logo on a piece of plastic. If i had my way we should be charging these companies as we are walking advertisments for their product! Any views?

They wanted 400 pounds for them, they are Dior Frames, which I could not afford. I went online when I got home to a website for Designer Frames, found the frames I wanted and put the info in about my prescription on the website and bought the glasses for around 300 pounds cheaper! Tell your daughter to look online, and you can cut the cost dramatically by ordering from them.
Before you follow Muchlove's tip, check that your optician of choice will handle frames not supplied by them - some will for a fee, others just won't. Now regarding the lenses, you can put as expensive a lens as you want in the cheapest frames that you want, if you want. Why would you? I dunno. It's in the interest of the optician's business to upsell the quality of lens, but if your daughter's prescription is quite simple and not bottle-bottom strength, then a simple low-cost lens with a nice non-reflective coating should do it.
This is the type of lens opticians have on offer when they say price including lenses' etc.
