Ladies' Day At Royal Ascot

After looking at pictures some of the so called ladies at Ascot, does anyone agree that the fascinator has had it's day and is now rather common? A nice classy hat always looks much better.

Equally it is good for women with thick hair as in the summer they don't overheat. I don't know why people are such snobs about them. An understated fascinator can look just as classy as a hat. Some hats are just as 'common' and ridiculous. Remember the pretzel?
An appropriate fascinator is NOT common. I have a huge collection of both fascinators and hats which I will wear depending on the occasion. I will not go to a wedding without headgear and I will rarely go to a funeral without an appropriated staid black/dark coloured hat.
Dave, I'm interested to know how you came to this conclusion.
