Gone For A Burton

Sat watching an old (1950's) sci fi film with Mr S,
one of the characters has just been bllown up by the aliens and we both commented " thats him gone for a Burton"
Where does the expression come from?
Its one of those things that you grow up with, but never really think about where it comes from.
