My name's thomas and I'm a 23 y.o frenchman. My girlfriend, Qing, is Chinese and we met in China. She's just finished her studies abroad in England and I was there as well, and her visa is about to end. We've been together for some time and we want to stay together. What is the best way for me to have her come to france and live there with me, visa-wise or work permit-wise? She doesn't speak French fluently. She hasn't had a job offer yet. She doesn't have much money and her parents can't support her much (he just finished paying for her studies and her mother died long ago). I need her. I love her. She can't go back to China, she loves it in the west! She loves the French countryside. China's hard to live in and get out of, she'll never have a life she'd want to have there. I can provide a free roof and food for her, but how do I get her to be... legal there?! Please, help me find a way to let her stay. I beg you, please, please help me.

My thoughts are that marrying her and then applying for permission for her to stay in the EU as your spouse is the only possible way.

The definition of thots is, er, interesting!

Baldric what do you mean?
Google it and you'll see what he means!

Look it up.
That's a new word I've learnt today ;-)
You'll need to speak to someone in France who is knowledgeable about this Thomas.

Is your GF part of the Qing Dynasty?

I am sure Thots is an abbreviation of Thomas and his surname!

Right oh Eddie, good man!
You could always marry her!
Well Eddie, it beats trying to supply advice in the Law topic in the eyes of some.

Whether you think it's genuine or not.
I'll be keeping a good thot for you both, Thomas.
yeah I agree
I think you marry her.....
Perhaps Jourdain will be able to answer your question Thots if she sees it.

ladybirder: WHO IS JOURDAIN?!

GEE mamalyne, I didn't think of that.
Does anyone here know a bit about immigration to France? Please, it's important, I want to go to the London consulate with as much info as I can. I'm real. My problem is real. Hers too, very very much so. Thank you for answering. I'm beyond stressed.

Others: Thots is a pseudonym for Thomas, well not anymore I guess. Pronounce it "totss". Thot is not only for hoes, it's also for Egyptian gods of knowledge.
Qing is not (I don't think so) a descendant of the Qing dynasty. And that's her family name. Her first name is Yue.
I don't want to get married.
Ever.
To anyone. It's political, I guess. But if it takes that to get her a green card, then yeah. I'll PACS her (french civil union of sorts).

Jourdain is a member here who used to live in France. Unfortunately she doesn't appear to have seen your post.
if you love her this much then you should marry, can't see the problem thereafter.
To please the law you'd need something official. I can understand not wishing to capitulate to the authorities demand for marriage, but there are practical considerations here. Maybe this civil thing is an acceptable compromise. You'd need to check under French law. Good luck with finding a solution.
My thoughts are that marrying her and then applying for permission for her to stay in the EU as your spouse is the only possible way.
Under EU Law you should be able to obtain permission for her to join you in France...but only if you are married.
You will note I said you should be able to obtain permission......even when married your government may decline to give her permission to enter France. Its not uncommon for the spouse to have to go back to China [ or any other country] to wait for permission to be granted. This can take several years.
