I saw a really lovely dress for my nieces wedding, its in emerald green.

My sister says green is not right for a wedding,

Is there a protocol for wedding attire regarding colours? We are going all day.

Any thoughts very welcome.

If it suits you and you love it wear it, the only superstition I can find is about brides wearing it.
I've never heard of that. I would wear any colour for a wedding.
I wouldn’t give it a thought and the only colour I wouldn’t wear is white/cream.

Thank you, I'll get it then. My sister does come out with some bizarre things sometimes. Ha Ha!
When I got married I wanted a pale green for my bridesmaids, but my mil objected saying it was unlucky. Never heard that before.
I went with peach in the end.
I bought a dress with a green, cream and grey mix pattern (it was lovely) and a matching green jacket for my brothers wedding. When I showed my future SIL it (too late to return) she was horrified so I just wore a black and cream dress which I already had but didn’t feel confident at all.
So wear what makes you feel good!
People who believe in faerie myths will think it an unlucky colour. Think of the tale of the Green Knight in the Arthur/Camelot yarns. Rational folk know better and wear whatever pleases them.
My mother used to say I looked good in green.
I think it matched my complexion.
The only reason now I won’t wear green and think it an unlucky colour ( for me anyway) I did a zip wire from 850feet up , dressed in green, tights, skirt top and a cowboy hat on St Patrick’s Day two years ago in a blizzard.....then tripped over a snow covered 3 incH kerb when I came down, smashing my specs and getting two lovely black eyes , now I won’t wear anything at all green :0/
The only consideration I'd have colour wise would be how strong the colour was, basically that it wouldn't stand out like a bit of a beacon in wedding photos, but that goes with any colour. Never heard of not wearing green to a wedding. I have in the past, a gorgeous silk patterned skirt in different shades of green and a darker green top, both from Monsoon.
Geez Bobbi...dont you think it was the icey, blizzard conditions rather than green that did it?
Just re-read the question, is your sister the mother of the bride? If so is there some issue over colour schemes for the bridal party (more bridesmaids maybe) or clash somewhere colour wise?
Haha Pasta , I must associate all that is green and it being Paddy’s Day with a bloodied face I guess ;0/
She didn't dream it up - it's a common belief. https://www.thefashionpolice.net/pippa-middelton-wears-green-to-wedding/

I would never have another green car. Never had so many near misses as I did in that car, so many drivers didn't seem to see me.
It's my least favourite colour for clothing, decorating or home furnishing. I love it in nature though.

Oh a few stories not to wear green then, Eve, no shes not the Mother of the bride, bridesmaids are in pink.

I will put it on hold for now but if i can't find anything else i like I'm wearing it.
And I’m sure you’ll look stunning in it Darcy
I’ve read that green is an unlucky colour to wear for all sorts of occasions, not just weddings.
Wear what you like. I love greens.
like Eve says - just don't outdazzle the bride.

But yes, it is an old superstition though as far as I know not very widespread.
I'm with apc. It's never OK except on trees and grass. And plants.
