When I left school, it was Easter 1964. We just left. That was it. We were given a Cathlolic Missal, then walked, out never to go back. No parties, no proms. Nuttn!
And now it’s at junior level with the girls dressing in long dresses with full make up and a limo to take them from one of their houses where they meet, to their school ,aged 11 yrs old ! It happened here on Wednesday with some friends kids, also what’s with nursery kids dressing in a mortar board and cloak when they leave and go to reception in the ‘big school’ ?
we didn't have anything, even a disco. But I was talking to a woman a couple of years ago who recalled that her school had a prom - and the band they hired to play were the Beatles.
I suppose it must have been about 1962, Bobbi, otherwise it have been beyond the funds of even the poshest school. It would have been a bit costly to hire them after Sergeant Pepper unless they were all at a loose end one Saturday night, roaming the streets and looking for something to do...
