The leader isn't the problem: yet another one would make it worse. In any case a Tory meltdown today is baked in. It's hard to see how things could turn out even worse than even they predict

Rishy will resign after the election. Sir Beer and council house Annie will have 5 years to ruin the nation. In the interim a new Tory leader will emerge just in time to wipe the floor with Labour in 2028/9.

If the Tory "kingmakers" couldn't find such a leader this time around, I can't see them doing so in the next decade. Unless they decide to sway opinion behind someone who actually recommends what much of the country wants, instead of them being painted as extreme.
