Bleach is toxic to cats...that includes inhaling the fumes. It also smells like urine to some cats. Maybe find something else to clean with.

My daughter's cat, late in life, has started this. At least it makes cleaning easy!

OK, no more Bleach.

Closing the door would mean he'd go somewhere else and the tray is easy to clean.

I'll just let things continue as they are and maybe buy a pair of flip flops.

Do you have a litter box for each cat and are they both neutered? Is it the first or second one doing the dirty

Try rubbing the cut side of a lemon on the shower tray, it might put him off.  Cats generally do not like citrus smells and this would be non-toxic to him.

There are 3 trays now. The older of the two uses them all in turn.

The younger one, about 4 months old and a male, won't go near any of them.

That's your problem - the young one views the trays as territory of the older one.  New tray in the shower cubicle and try and exclude the older one from it.  It will take a few days of you having to police it fairly hard, but once you've got the little one used to the idea, he should be OK.

you need a litter tray per cat and then a spare mutual litter tray also you need to not use harsh chemicals like bleach because it will put the cats off using the area you can get good chemical stuff to clean them from pet stores that wont upset the cat
