Pale Yellow Poppadom Dip Recipe required.
4 Answers
Does anyone know what the dip is called that is served at Indian restaurants with the popadoms?
I cannot find the name of it so therefore cannot find a recipe for it. It definately has some kind of yogurt base which is smooth in consistency like single cream, slightly sweet tasting and pale yellow in colour. Its definitely not raita- i'm not sure if its just a speciality dip in out local Indian as i have not noticed it anywhere else!
I can't get enough of the stuff and would like to make a big batch!
Thanks!

yoghurt (about half a big tub)
1 tsp mint sauce
half tsp turmeric (this will make it yellow)
mix all this up, then add something sweet - I've used a bit of honey before, or some sweet chilli sauce (about 1 tsp)
I also sometimes add a bit of lemon juice and some fresh coriander.

i think its close to a lassi, which is a thin yoghurty drink, which can be taken sweet or salted. lassi - 1 cup plain yoghurt, 3 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp rock salt, 1/2 cup water, blend and enjoy. the yellow colour probably comes from turmeric, so experiment by replacing the cumin, or mixing quantities of cumin / turmeric and if the version you have is slightly spicey you will need to add chilli sauce or powder. im sure this will be fairly close.
