Two incidents have occured in the last 12 hours which nearly resulted in the death of at least two people. (1) At 10pm last night I was waiting for the lights to change to green at a crossroads. As is usual at this particular junction, when the lights did change I moved off really slowly as there is an alarming regular tendancy for traffic to go through when their lights are on red. It was as well that I did move off slowly as a cyclist came charging through without looking, with no lights on the back or front of his bike and wearing dark clothes all over. The car coming towards me blew his horn and was greeted with the V sign and swearing which I heard through closed windows. (2) At a T-junction at 8:30 this morning, a Tesco delivery van narrowly missed a cyclist who was not only wearing his hoodie with the top over his head but I was clearly able to see the cord of his headphones. So not only was his vision obscured by the hood but he couldn't hear anything either. I truly despair at the intelligence (or, more properly, lack of intelligence) of people today. Both of these cyclists were in their teens as I know them both. How they have survived until know is a mystery to everyone in our village and their parents don't seem to care despite the numerous warnings they (parents and children) have had from police and neighbours

I read your rant but whats the question?

There was no question - it was just to pass on incidents that are occurring too regularly and are likely sooner rather than later, especially with the nights drawing in, to result in deaths.
In the first example, you said traffic tends to go through on red at that particular junction so it's hardly fair to single out cyclists is it?

THECORBYLOON - true, but at least cars are big with lights not small with no lights driven by people clad in dark clothes with no metal cage around them to offer protection in the case of a collision.
In the second example, who had the right of way?
Question Author
The Tesco van. The cyclist just shot across the road in front of the Tesco van and turned right completely oblivious to everything around him. I was waiting to turn into the road the cyclist had come from and was waiting for the Tesco van to pass.
So, they'll get killed, and serve them right too. I just ride gently on the pavements and mind my own business, I'm not going to get knocked off there.
"there is now question..."! Here's a clue - this is answerbank, and question and answer resource ..... please post you rants in chatterbank.
osprey - don't worry about the situation. It's all about evolution. Survival of the fittest (or in this case the smartest). The stupid will be killed and removed fromo the gene pool, improving it for the rest.
