Book of photographs for an 11 year old

My niece will be turning 11 in a couple of weeks' time. Being an artisitic young thing, when she was given a basic digital camera last Christmas, she took some very good snaps. However, now she's got to the stage where she would like to progress from the family snap to the artistic composition. I've bought her a 'how to' book for her birthday, but would like to combine it with a book of photographs to show her what is possible. Ideally the photos wouldn't include nudes (her parents might be upset if it did!), would include colour photos - not just black and white - and wouldn't contain distressing images of war-torn Afghanistan, etc.

I am afraid I am visually illiterate and know absolutely nothing about photography myself, so would welcome suggestions.

what about a subscription to Amateur Photographer or something similar? Those are usually full of hints and tips as well as some stunning photos.

Though amateur photographer will have nudes in it on occasions (it did when I used to get it anyhow.... no that's not why I got it:))

A nice idea, Boxtops, but I've just had a look online at various magazines - including AP - the photographs are good, yes, but the features and news would probably not be appealing to a youngster of 11. I want something which will inspire her, without smacking of schoolwork.
If she's still keen in a couple of years, though, you've just solved the problem of a future birthday present.
Chuck, of course there were far more artistic and technical reasons for buying the magazine, I'm sure!

I've done a lot of my learning by watching short tutorials on Youtube and one person who I feel has a nice user friendly approach is Gavin Hoey. He is a professional photographer who has a lot of exciting tips and advice available, I've learnt loads from watching his clips on Youtube. A lot of his stuff admittedly includes Photoshop based post production (which I advocate strongly) and a little over seeing from an encouraging adult might be helpful.
