The albums are reasonably priced and this way your parents will also have their own professional album of photos of their son/daughters special day. The front the albums are titled 'our daughters wedding', or 'our sons wedding'.
I also had a similar problem with the flowers in that my mum wouldn't actually get home to her house till two days after the wedding on a plane journey.
I sent her flowers the day after she got home that matched my bouquet, and that bought a tear to her eyes.
I also bought a glass engraved perfume bottle for my cousin who sang dufing the ceremony
We could not give fresh flowers as thank you gifts as father & father-in-law are both allergic to pollen. We ended up getting everlasting silk & dried flowers made up in a display which will last for years. They don't have to be old fashioned, we got nice contemporary displays made up.
Both sets of parents were delighted.
I had dried flowers at my wedding, and they can dry almost any flower these days. Anyway, for our mums I had arrangements made up to match the flowers THEY had on their wedding days.
I took photos in to the florists and she copied them as best she could. They were delighted.
As for the brooch idea - jewellery is always acceptable and you could get a special silver letter opener engraved for the dads - that way they'll think of you every day!
Or what about one of those frames that fits more than one photo in? You could put lots of phoots of you and them together through your childhood years.
