Working In Australia

I am a 28 year old mum of 4. I am desperate to move to Australia. But I left school and started a family so I have qualifications. I would greatly appreciate any help/advice on how Iwould go about moving there, would i go on a work and holiday visa and look for work whilst there??? Thanking u in advance

I've just moved to NZ and I know it is a very time consuming process getting a visa. I don't know about Oz, but for NZ you need to have a skill they want or need. It's not just a case of applying and getting.

You'd need a skill to move there.

You can go unskilled on a works visa but it won't be ideal with 4 kids. Part of the works visa includes having to do a stint at fruit picking. Plus you have to leave once the visa is up.

It's also very expensive.

As ummmm says Australia is very expensive now compared to the UK, 20 years ago it was the other way round.

Thank you for your answers. Fruit picking? Do you have to do this? Payed? My husband is a waiter at a Italian restaurant but he has done bricklaying/roofing/warehouse work and a stonemason but doesn't have qualifications for any which is sooooo annoying :(

That's not quite true, though the works visa is designed for those that want to move round the country a year doing "part time" jobs such as fruit picking.

My daughter and boyfriend went to Australia a year ago on a 1 year works visa, and spent all the time in Perth working, and did not do any fruit picking.

Her boyfriend is a bricklayer and he worked bricklaying all year and my daughter worked on various admin jobs for 3 months till she found a job she liked and stayed there for 9 months (not sure she was supposed to stay that long).

It is hard to get into Australia without some sort of skill. My daughter and boyfriend want to go back but even with his bricklaying skills it is not going to be easy.

As has been said, it is also now a very expensive country as the world recession has not hit them, plus they have found lots of natural resources in the ground they are exporting to China and other places.

Wondering why you are desperate to move to Australia? Do you have family there?

Not sure from your original post whether you have qualifications or not. Unless you can find a well paid job, I think you'd struggle financially because, as others have said, it's very expensive there now.
