Fathers Day

Am I the only father who doesn't think Father's Day is a proper day? It was invented by Americans last century,and, I suspect, promoted thereafter by Hallmark. Mothering Sunday is a proper day,acknowledged and encouraged by the Church, but I can't bring myself to recognise or want any acknowledgment of Father's (or Fathers') Day.

Mother's Day is a completely different date....the US is commercially driven - and also ties in with the last round of the US Open golf, talking of which I need to find a streaming site if it's not on the main channels.

I don't recall Father's Day even existing in the UK much before the 90s

I think it's fair though. It's only a card and a little present at the end of the day.

It is fairly recent although can remember it when i was little. Just brought in for equality.

I worked in a card shop from 1970 until 1972 and i remember a card rep coming in saying they were going to start having a grandmothers day.

Yes it is commercially driven. Nothing wrong with appreciating fathers. No need to spend a fortune. Just say thanks and give a big hug. Should imagine that fathers who live alone would appreciate a card.

I remember the very first fathers day that I was aware of, it was the year my first Son was born in 1980, I really dont bother with it much it means nothing to me, I am however still pleased when I get good wishes from my kids.

I must say, I am partial to a "good" whiskey myself!! cant stick Teachers or that Bells type rubbish. its like drinking caustic compared to a "good" single malt.

Headwreck, Glenfiddich is very acceptable whisky, I like it.
