Gift For Someone Retiring?
19 Answers
Is it usual to buy a gift for a close relation when he retires? I really hadn't given it a thought and just bought a card but now my daughter says it is the 'done' thing. They are not having a party or anything and are leaving on holiday the next day. I don't want to appear mean, (which I'm not) so wondered what others do in this situation please.

When a person retires, especially a long-served colleague, its customary for others at work, to "club together" and buy that person a gift, but I have never heard of it being done family Members before.
A card would seem to suffice, and perhaps a family meal, to celebrate the retirement.
