Christening Present?

Hi, I have been invited to attend the christening of my neighbour's third child. What's the protocol about presents?

I think it has to be a keepsake sort of thing, I wouldn't go mad for a neighbours' child - just get a simple memento of some kind.

money will ALWAYS go down well - it can go in the kid's account and prevent the scenario of 20x moneyboxes, 10x photoframes and 27 x teddybears!

If not cash, a piece of silver. One tradition used to be to give an engraved silver napkin-ring. For a girl you could give a locket to be kept for her until she is old enough to wear it. Also, you can get interesting coins, such a Churchill Crown ( the old five-bob) or a silver dollar.

As a non family member a little book or a toy woukd be ideal
