Fantasy Football Planning - Chelsea
6 Answers
I run a Fantasy Football league for my family and sent them the following in an email to help them plan their teams.
I thought others may find it useful and plan to do more for the other "big" teams in the Premier League.
This email concentrates on Chelsea and the coming season.
Chelsea had a good season last year, winning the league, but losing in the Cup Final to Arsenal.
However they WERE NOT in Europe last year so could concentrate on the Premier League.
They also avoided many injuries so were able to field a settled team most of the season.
They had the third best defense in the league last year (behind only Spurs and Man Utd). It was a settled defense with a "back 3" of Cahill, Luiz, and Azpilicueta with two wing backs of Moses and Alonso.
In midfield they had two holding players in Kante and Matic (or sometimes Fabregas) and two creative midfielders in Hazard and a choice of Willian or Pedro.
Up front Costa played on his own.
This year (so far) they have gained:
Caballero (GK) on a free transfer from Man C (replaced Begovic)
Rudiger (central defender or full back) from Roma for £30 million
Bakayoko (midfield) from Monaco for £40 million (replaced Matic)
Morata (striker) from Real Madrid for £60 million (replaced Costa)
However they have sold or loaned out loads of players (about 28 players in all) including Matic to Man United, Solanke to Liverpool, Ake and Begovic to Bournemouth and many others.
It also looks like Costa will be leaving at some point as well.
So really the only player they have gained is Rudiger in defense, the other 3 were to replace players leaving.
Note also they have some injuries with Hazard out till early September, Pedro with a facial injury, and Bakayoko with an injury.
Chelsea had a settled team last year, avoided injuries, and were NOT in Europe.
This year they have a UNSETTLED team, have some injuries, and ARE in Europe. While they have gained 4 players they have also sold a number of players and have probably not improved their squad that much overall.
Unless they buy a few more players I can see Chelsea having a difficult season.

It is not going to make your task any more arduous. Lik and Arks bravely take on the communications department for us and we are actively seeking new joiners. You have been warned, we will brow beat you into submission. :)) Come on Giulbert join us. I will cross post you thread into our AB thread.

Another though Guilbert and Lik. Guilbert's league members could also join our AB league if they wanted to surely. If Guilbert were to perhaps make the judgement of who is "suitable" to release the PIN no. to I can find nothing in our meagre rule book that disbars them. They would not be able to access our garbled minutes without joining AB anyway. :))
Sadly I am already over burdened with Fantasy teams.
My family run 3 different leagues in three different Fantasy competitions - The Telegraph, the Sun, and the Premier League.
For my sins I took advantage of the offer in the Telegraph for 8 teams for £9.99 so I have NINE team in the Telegraph (the 8 plus the free one) plus a team in both the Sun and Premier League.
So that is 11 teams in all - madness.
And because each of these competitions work differently as regards number of players, cost of players, how transfers are done etc it does does drive me mad a times !
So sorry, but I cant join any more leagues.
